Thailand

March 31-April 1 2006

Ah the bus journey the bus journey.

Which brought us to yet another hotel with the finest room of the holiday.

We would like to publicly thank the loonies at the travel agency and heartily recommend the Raming Lodge Hotel in Chiang Mai.

We wandered around for a bit and found the recommended Antique House restaurant which was very nice if not as scintillating as we expected. But bus lag was setting in and we needed to sleep.

Next day and some of the hotel's delights can be sampled ~

all it really needs is a swimming pool and it should be getting one in a year or so

good breakfast buffet with Thai and Euro options

The views from the small window of the room were nothing much. But from the walkways:

Slightly different to Bangkok. Perhaps a bit like comparing Edinburgh to London.

A small selection of the many studies of Thai architectural and structural detail …

In how many pictures can you find a small buddhist puppy?

The small bikkhu was very pleased
to see that stray dogs are cared for
in the temples of Chiang Mai and
insisted on donating some of my money.

Down these quieter streets the hungry humans must go, to eat duck and rice in pavement cafes with the local folk …

The next day was the notorious and much boycotted General Election. Because of this no booze was available in bars or restaurants. We wandered into town and ate at a rather uninspired Italian restaurant and settled for an early night.

What did we do on Election Day? We went a-riding on a heffalump and rafting down a river!
